Behind the Designers: Mina (“The Path to Synergy”)

The Path to Synergy,   Mina Fies

People often ask me why I chose the design and remodeling industry, but in reality, I feel it actually chose me.

I had been a Realtor and absolutely loved helping people find their perfect home. After spending a few years in Virginia Beach, I returned to the Washington DC area to be close to my family. This was back in 2007 and the economy had already begun to shift, so I decided it would be a good idea to supplement my income as I made the transition back to the DC market.

At the time, a friend of mine owned a design/build firm and suggested I work as his sales person and designer. After about a week on the job, I was completely hooked. Instead of just finding someone their perfect home, I was now able to help clients mold and transform their home into exactly what their family needed!

It is beyond satisfying to see a homeowner go from frustrated to ecstatic about their home, and to be a part of that experience is extremely rewarding.

Working for a remodeling company was also extremely eye opening. I was surprised to see how fearful people were to renovate their homes and how difficult it was for them to trust a contractor. After all, often you hear horror stories of projects gone wrong: over budget and taking way more time than they are supposed to!

We knew it didn’t have to be that way. By focusing on the design details first, we were able to avoid cost overruns and create a much smoother construction process from the beginning.

Although my friend’s company ultimately succumbed to the recession, something inside of me had permanently shifted. I had a burning desire to help homeowners understand that the process of renovating their home does NOT have to be painful!

I approached my wonderful (and very trusting) husband about this crazy idea of starting a construction company in the middle of a recession and Synergy D&C was born. A lot of amazing events have transpired between then and now, but our proudest accomplishment has been helping each and every client renovate their home or place of business, and showing them they can actually have FUN doing it… I certainly do!
