I often get so focused on what I am doing, that I forget the why I’m doing it!
Sometimes it takes a person close to you to point out the obvious and that is exactly what happened to me recently.
I was preparing to speak for the Greater DC Chapter of NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners), and I had reached out to a speaking coach (Ritzya, “The Drama Coach”) to help me get ready.
As the 2014-2015 President, it was important that I make a good first impression. Not sure how much “drama” I wanted to add, but I knew I wanted to create something special and out of my comfort zone which is why I enlisted Ritzya’s help.
That’s when she pointed out that although I had put my blood, sweat, and tears into building Synergy Design & Construction (along with my incredible husband, Mark), I could probably count on one hand the number of times I actually USE the word “synergy” in my speaking, in my writing, and in my discussions with potential clients.
It was a jaw-dropping moment! How is it that the name of our company “Synergy”, which embodies everything I am inside and out of the business had gotten tossed aside?
How have I not shared how important it is to have SYNERGY in everything that we do? That when SYNERGY isn’t there…things just don’t work?
The definition of Synergy is literally “working together,” when “the sum of the parts make a better whole”.
There is nothing more important than having Synergy in our lives. When we work together as family and friends, as co-workers, as a company…we’re able to create so much more than when we try to go it alone. We’re able to truly embrace the gifts that everyone around us has to contribute and become our best selves.
That’s why we named our company “Synergy” – because the most important element in a renovation project is having the SYNERGY between the DESIGN and the CONSTRUCTION.
When it is not there, things don’t flow smoothly. Projects take longer than expected, cost more than anticipated, and create those “renovation nightmares” we’ve all heard about (and some of you have already lived through).
THAT is why we started this company and created the system we’ve created! Our “Renovation Roadmap” brings Synergy to everything we do and everything we are. Not just for our clients, but for ourselves and our lives.
If Mark and I don’t have Synergy, we’re unbalanced as a couple. If our employees don’t have Synergy, they wouldn’t be able to produce the results they do. If we don’t have Synergy with our clients, they don’t get to experience the stress-free renovation they wanted in the first place.
That’s why we go out of our way to ensure we have Synergy in our lives. That we take the time off we need to pursue what’s important outside of our four walls and we encourage the same for our employees. It’s even why we don’t meet with our clients in the evening and the weekends, so THEY have the Synergy in their lives that is so important.
I’ll always strive for and embrace the Synergy in all aspects of my life. When it’s not there, I take actions to put it in. Whether it’s having “Mina Time” on my calendar or “Date Night” with Mark…having a well balanced and “Synergistic” approach is what I’ve dedicated my life to helping others do. In their homes, in their lives, and in their spirit.
So yes, Ritzya, you are absolutely right. There is no reason to keep it a secret any longer…time to wear it on my sleeve.
Time to Synergize!
