It’s that time of year when home remodelers and interior designers look ahead and call the design trends for 2021! You’ll have to wait a little longer for our predictions on the home remodeling design trends we think we’ll see this coming year but, in the meantime, here’s the top picks for ‘Color of the Year’ (or color trends) as chosen by some of the best known paint companies in the business. One thing you’ll notice: all these colors imbue the feeling of calm and take a cue from nature with much needed soothing colors to help us relax at home after the stresses of 2020!
Aegean Teal by Benjamin Moore
Benjamin Moore is our go-to when it comes to the paint we use in our home remodels, so it’s only fitting we start with them! This beautiful Aegean Teal color couples blues and greens, with a gray undertone that keeps it feeling modern. To keep the feel of a room balanced, this color can easily be paired with natural accents such as wood and stone.

Urbane Bronze by Sherwin-Williams
Another pick inspired by nature and the need to create a haven at home, Sherwin-Williams selected a rich, bold neutral as its 2021 color of the year. According to the company, ″Urbane Bronze encourages you to create a sanctuary space for mindful reflection and renewal.” We’re picking this one as ‘one to watch’ for many home remodels this coming year.

Behr Color Trends 2021 Palette
Like many other paint companies, Behr did not select one specific color this year, rather a curated 21 color palette that is “intended to elevate your comfort zone.” They put together an array of examples that show you how to use these colors to create “an experience” in every space:
- Casual comfort – light, warm neutrals
- Calm Zone – restorative blues and greens
- Subtle Focus – soft, gentle hues
- Quiet Haven – rich, evocative colors
- Optimistic view – bold and saturated
- Outdoor Escapes – easy curbside appeal

Passionate by HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams
HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams is all about vibrant, daring colors this year. Their top pick, Passionate, is a rich, saturated red that is transitional in execution – modern but with traditional elements mixed in. This color is part of a full spectrum of shades that help make your life easier when it comes to trying to put colors together in their Delightfully Daring Color Collection.

Aqua Fiesta by Glidden
In a “first ever” for Glidden, they chose Aqua Fiesta as their accent color of the year. As far as color of the year announcements go, Glidden’s paint color guru, Amy Donato, gets our prize for ‘most creative announcement’, “No one could have predicted how upsetting 2020 would have turned out to be. Last year, we already knew that Whirlwind would be a staple color for 2020 and beyond, and the anxiety of this year has only made people crave this no-frills gray even more. We have gone one step further to help you stop procrastipainting by unveiling Aqua Fiesta as the go-to accent color. Now, it’s time to put down that homemade banana bread and pick up a paint brush.”

Farrow & Ball 2021 Colours of Year
According to England-based Farrow & Ball, “This time last year, few of us could have predicted how important our homes would be to us in 2020. As we look ahead now, we see 2021 colour trends that reflect our recent collective journey – towards more time spent indoors, emphasis on sanctuary, and the need for rooms that enhance our wellbeing. We think you’ll agree that’s a lot to sum up in a single Colour of the Year!”, Rather than pick just one, they selected 12 shades featuring earthy neutrals and rich natural colors, intended to offer both comfort and a sense of luxury.
