A Main Level Renovation in Reston, Virginia That Blends Warmth, Function, and Elevated Design
Originally designed with a traditional main-level layout, this home was ready for a thoughtful redesign that better matched the family’s daily life. A disconnected Kitchen and dated finishes made the first floor feel segmented and dark. Our clients wanted a space that felt brighter, more functional, and more cohesive, without losing the warmth and character of their home.
The renovation focused on the Kitchen, Laundry Room, Powder Room, and Primary Bath, with refined upgrades carried throughout the first floor for a consistent, elevated look and feel.
A Custom Kitchen Designed as the Heart of the Home
The Kitchen saw the most dramatic transformation. Its original layout no longer supported the family’s needs, and the finishes had reached their lifespan. We introduced a new floor plan centered around a large island with a prep sink, concealed trash, chef’s seating, and generous storage, making cooking and gathering more intuitive.
Custom, ceiling-height kitchen cabinetry now anchors the space with a clean and tailored presence. Pure White perimeter cabinets provide a timeless foundation, while the bold Maritime Nights island adds dimension and a modern contrast. Quartz kitchen countertops and a full-height stone backsplash create a seamless focal point around the window and cooktop, balancing texture with streamlined simplicity.
Premium kitchen appliances, including a 42″ SubZero refrigerator, Wolf double ovens, an induction cooktop, a concealed Cove dishwasher, and a Zephyr beverage center, bring professional-level performance to the everyday kitchen. Layered lighting including under-cabinet fixtures, updated recessed lights, and polished nickel pendants, ensures the room stays warm, bright, and welcoming.
Kitchen Design Details That Bring Warmth and Cohesion
To unify the main level, the existing hardwood floors were refinished and extended into the kitchen and pantry for continuity. Flush-mount wood registers create a seamless finish, while refinished stair treads and risers paired with a new carpet runner add both comfort and visual interest.
Fresh paint brightened the kitchen and laundry room, while the home’s surrounding spaces retained their original finishes, preserving the character the homeowners wanted to keep.
Simple, High-Impact Upgrades to Supporting Spaces
The powder room and primary bath received upgrades that focused on modernizing and refining without the need for full remodels. New quartz countertops, sinks, faucets, and mirrors refreshed each space, balancing clean lines with timeless warmth while leveraging the existing vanities.
The completed renovation reimagines the main level with layered updates, thoughtful details, and an intentional flow that connects every space. From the statement-making kitchen to the subtle refinements throughout, each detail contributes to a home that feels brighter, more functional, and beautifully aligned with the family’s lifestyle and vision.
