As local business owners who enjoy entertaining family and friends on a regular basis, our clients were ready to make some big changes to their home in Reston! Although the home is in a great location and backs to a golf course, the layout of the existing main level was no longer ‘working’ for them. Original features of the home (such as the sloping wooden ceiling) were lost in the existing design and others were ready for a modern, stylish refresh.
The biggest design challenge in this project was relocating the existing Kitchen (previously at the front of the home), to its new location at the back (where the Dining Area portion of the great room was located). The new Kitchen now opens up to the Family Room and has a perfect view to the golf course behind the property. A bulky brick fireplace wall that separated the Kitchen and Dining Room was removed and the whole space opened up. The flow now makes more sense and the use of space is maximized.
No space was left untouched and no detail overlooked: as the owners of their own home organization & floor coating solution business, our clients turned the Pantry into a functional and stylish space, complete with a secret entrance for the family cats to enter via the new Dining Room for access to their food!
The entrance to the home also got a makeover. It is now open and inviting with modern cable railing and feels much brighter thanks to a larger entry to the new Dining Room. It also provides a line of sight into the Kitchen/Family Room.
The end result is a remodel that transformed the main level into a modern, open and inviting space. It is now the perfect place for family and friends to gather.
