Our clients, an active couple, lived in a nice-sized house in a great neighborhood – the only trouble with their dream home was that walking inside felt like a trip back in time! In both the kitchen and the primary bath, original fixtures dated the home, and the floorplans weren’t conducive to the clients’ lifestyle.
On the main floor, the goal of our project was to create a kitchen with a better flow that connected well to the adjacent family room, and that also featured more seating – specifically at an island. The clients enjoy an active wine club, and in addition to better cooking and gathering functionality on the main level, a “wine tasting room” was also on their nice-to-have list.
On the second floor, a generous primary suite also featured a similarly dated bathroom. The room was dominated by an overly large built-in tub deck, and several diving walls chopped up the rest of the space. The vanity underneath a sloped ceiling was too low and too narrow.
We got to work refreshing the spaces with new cabinetry, flooring, lighting, and plumbing fixtures throughout. Light painted cabinetry replaced the old stained oak in the kitchen, instantly updating the space. A pretty green color on some of the cabinetry provides a bold accent. The color is continued into the adjacent former dining room which we turned into a “wine room”! Four new seats at the island (in addition to those at the existing breakfast room table) allowed the clients to forgo a formal dining room and instead use the space to suit their lifestyle. Updated appliances and a better workflow accommodate the clients cooking and baking hobbies.
The primary bath was refreshed with an open floorplan, thanks in large part to a new freestanding tub. The removal of the tub deck allowed for both a longer vanity as well as a larger shower that is open to the rest of the bath. Light tile finishes and paint colors make the space feel light and bright, while a gorgeous walnut vanity provides depth and warmth.
Upon completion, our clients were so thrilled to have both a beautiful new main level for entertaining, as well as a spa-like retreat for themselves in the master suite. Give us a call to see how we can help you transform your space to function beautifully for your family’s lifestyle!
