The existing square footage of our clients’ Basement was great, with a TV/Rec Room and Guest Bedroom/Bathroom. However, a large unfinished space was under-utilized as a storage area. The remaining rooms were beginning to date with older finishes in the Guest Bedroom and Bathroom. Seeing the potential and ready to put the entire Basement to better use and create more functional and fun spaces, the homeowners enlisted Synergy Design & Construction to help them create multi-functional zones for hanging out, entertaining, hosting overnight guests and even additional work/study space.
We started in the unfinished space, which was transformed into a modern and family-friendly TV/Media Room, complete with a cool new bar. Built-in cabinets along one wall provide the perfect place for the TV, but also provide lots of storage and display shelves.
The previous TV/Rec Room was turned into a Game Zone with enough space for air hockey, shuffleboard, an arcade game and a dart board. This is now the perfect place for the kids to hang out with their friends – adults also permitted!
An additional work/study zone was also created in a nook along one wall. We added a built-in desk with plenty of cabinets and display shelves for our client’s prized skateboards. Storage was still a must-have, so we retained a storage room behind the Media Room with a new entrance to the left of the new built-in desk.Â
In the Guest Bathroom, the old fixtures and finishes had to go! A gorgeous newly-tiled shower, vanity, floating shelves and updated fixtures turned this into a modern retreat. Last, but by no means least, we added an egress window to the Guest Room (which is below grade) to make the space an official Bedroom. New paint, light fixture and flooring brought this room right up to date in keeping with the other finishes.
