A Main Level Home Transformation in Great Falls, Virginia
This Reston home had strong potential, but its dated, compartmentalized main level made everyday living and entertaining feel more restricted than it needed to be. The homeowners envisioned brighter spaces, improved flow, and a more intentional layout that supported both daily routines and frequent gatherings.
To bring that vision to life, Synergy reimagined the entire main level to feel open, cohesive, and welcoming from the moment you step inside.
Client Testimonial
“Synergy is the best of the best. Our home remodel—main and upper levels—was hands-down the best experience we’ve ever had under construction. From start to finish, communication was flawless, and our project manager was always accessible and on top of every detail.
The design team was incredibly patient, sharp, and responsive to every idea we threw their way.
The carpentry crew was exceptionally talented, hardworking, and were great at making adjustments in the field—they showed up every single day and didn’t stop until the job was done.
What truly sets Synergy apart is their pride in craftsmanship: they proactively fixed minor issues we hadn’t even noticed. That level of care speaks volumes. We couldn’t be happier with the entire process, and the final result is stunning.” – Eric S.
Opening Up the Heart of the Home
The kitchen served as the anchor of the transformation and underwent the most dramatic change. Previously separated by narrow doorways and closed-off walls, the kitchen and dining room were reconnected through a generous 84-inch opening that significantly improved sightlines and circulation between key living spaces.
Behind the scenes, HVAC and plumbing were thoughtfully consolidated into a clean chase, allowing the layout to remain open without visual interruptions. Ceiling-height cabinetry, a large island with seating for four, stone countertops, expanded lighting, and a full tile backsplash create a kitchen that balances refined design with everyday usability.
A wider 61-inch kitchen window and new patio doors now flood the space with natural light and frame views of the surrounding landscape, reinforcing the connection between indoor living and the outdoors.
The dining room was equally elevated with painted base cabinetry and stone countertops that support both storage and serving needs. Updated lighting completes the space, creating a setting that feels polished yet inviting for both everyday meals and larger gatherings.
Family Spaces With Warmth and Personality
The family room and living room (music room) were redesigned to feel brighter, more cohesive, and intentionally connected. Outdated ceiling beams and wall paneling were removed to lighten the space, while the existing stone fireplace was enhanced with a new electric insert, custom wall build-outs, and decorative shelving that add warmth and architectural interest.
A large new opening now links the two rooms, anchored by a half-wall with a wood slat detail and integrated custom shelving for both display and storage. Additional display niches, floating shelves, and a wood moulding focal wall in the living room introduce character without overwhelming the clean, modern aesthetic.
Together, these spaces now support how the homeowners relax, gather, and entertain: connected, comfortable, and full of personality.
Practical Upgrades That Support Everyday Living
Functionality was thoughtfully addressed throughout the home. The laundry room received a practical refresh with new flooring, updated plumbing, new fixtures, and electrical upgrades to support future cabinetry, ensuring the space is ready to evolve alongside the homeowners’ needs.
In the foyer, the home’s first impression was transformed with refinished stair treads, a new runner, updated railings with metal balusters, custom moulding, fresh paint, improved closet storage, and a new chandelier that sets a bright, modern tone upon entry.
Upstairs, new hardwood flooring, selective repainting, updated lighting, and a widened hallway near the primary bedroom help the second level flow naturally from the refreshed main floor, reinforcing a sense of continuity throughout the home.
A Home Designed for the Way They Live
The completed remodel blends modern design, thoughtful details, and everyday comfort into a cohesive living space. By improving flow, elevating finishes, and maximizing natural light, the homeowners now have a main level that truly reflects how they cook, gather, relax, and enjoy their home.
It’s a space designed not just to look beautiful, but to support real life: effortless, welcoming, and ready for the moments that matter most. Ready to redesign your home? Contact Synergy Design & Construction to get started.
