The home features expansive windows of glass and open layout but the bathrooms of this late 60’s mid-century home were small, dated and were an eyesore to the other areas of the home that had been renovated. Looking for more space, the homeowner’s had turned an adjoining bedroom into a temporary closet as they were looking for ways to expand their primary suite. Beyond their own private living quarters, they wanted to improve upon the lower level creating a nice retreat for a family member who recently moved in.
We determined that the primary bathroom would best serve the clients if we moved its location to the temporary closet, allowing for a much larger footprint and a view through an existing window to the backyard. We installed a large double vanity with tower cabinets on each end providing abundant storage for personal items. A large shower with a quartzite integrated bench serves as both a shower seat, storage area and is overall integral to the modern design aesthetic. Waterworks plumbing fixtures sparkle in polished nickel and the exposed rail overhead spa shower and handheld guarantee a luxurious spa-like experience.
The former primary bathroom was converted into a custom built-in closet with white oak cabinetry giving each homeowner the perfect space to organize their belongings, while leaving wall space for decorative lighting and artwork.
The entry to the primary suite had been a narrow hallway which only highlighted the entrance to one of two guest bathrooms on the main level. We widened the hallway as part of the primary bathroom design and reconfigured the hall bath to open into the adjacent bedroom with a space-saving pocket door creating a cozy en-suite space for guests.
Lastly, with the idea of creating a multi-generational home, we expanded the lower level bedroom by utilizing adjacent unused storage space. This created a larger “suite” feel by extending the bedroom, providing a custom built-in dresser, closet storage and artwork display area.
